Main opposition New Democracy will not ratify the agreement signed by Athens and Skopje to resolve the name dispute between the two countries, ND leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis said on Thursday.
The parliament plenum of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia (FYROM) on Wednesday ratified the Greek-FYROM agreement signed on Sunday in Prespes, on the solution of the name issue.
“We did not give anything in exchange for something else, we made the best deal for the country,” Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said on Tuesday, talking to ANT1 TV about the Athens-Skopje agreement to resolve the name dispute.
Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte and Foreign Minister Enzo Moavero Milanesi congratulated Greek Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and his FYROM counterpart, Zoran Zaev, on the agreement they signed in Prespes on Sunday.
UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres sent his warmest congratulations to Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev for the “historic agreement signed on Sunday in Prespes.”
