During the current century, from 2000 onwards, the highest snowfall in Athens was recorded in 2008 (25 cm) and “Elpis” is ranked immediately after with about 20 cm of snow. “Medea” in February 2021 and the snowfalls of 2002 and 2004 had caused slightly lower heights of about 15 cm, according to a comparative analysis of meteo scientists of the National Observatory of Athens.

The most significant incidence of snow on record for Athens occurred in February 1911 with 150 cm of snow, followed by that of 1929, when 50 cm of snow fell on the Greek capital (snow heights are estimated by the National Observatory of Athens-Meteo, since there is no snowfall database).

As for the duration of the snowfall in Athens, that of “Elpis” lasted about 18 hours compared to 22 hours for “Medea” last year.
