“ND facilitates hate over the FYROM deal, I ‘ve received life threats” says Nikos Kotzias

Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias in an interview with 24/7 radio station on Thursday spoke of a “diversion into hate rhetoric” that undermines democracy and which is tolerated and facilitated by the stance of main opposition New Democracy.

Kotzias also revealed that he is still receiving death threats. “I have received,” he said, “800 letters threatening my life and my family. I have received boxes of blood, of earth sprinked with blood and bullets. Where is the prosecutor? We are talking about serious felonies and I do not see anyone reacting. I found the phones, addresses, and names of the people threatening me by phone. The authorities simply handed out cautions. All this is reminiscent of the period ’63 -’65. We have a diversion to hate rhetoric. Have you seen any public prosecutor bothered by this?” he wondered.

Referring to the protests, the minister said that many demonstrating against the agreement with FYROM did so with good intentions but he condemned some of the slogans heard.
