Athens Tram will stop running between Syntagma and Kasomouli stations due to drainage works

The tram in Athens will stop running between Kasomouli and Syntagma stops as of Friday (Oct. 19) due to restoration work carried out on the banks of Ilissos River, which lie under a section of the tracks.

Specifically, the tram lines will run the following routes, until further notice:
– Line 3, Peace and Friendship Stadium (“SEF”) – Asklipeio Hospital, Voula – SEF
– Line 4, SEF – Kasomouli (at Neos Kosmos) – SEF
– Line 5, Asklipeio Voulas – Kasomouli – Asklipeio Voulas

During the project, which is of unspecified duration, passengers will be able to use their tram tickets for the Kasomouli-Syntagma Square stops on Metro Line 2, which they can pick up at the Neos Kosmos Metro stop. They can also use the ticket on buses.

The project was announced on Wednesday by Infrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Spirtzis and Attica Region director Rena Dourou.

The work will shore up the banks of Ilissos River, was built over 60 years ago and never inspected until recently, according to Spirtzis. The project will also restore and improve wear and tear on the Ardittos-Kallirois rainwater drainage pipeline, which runs near the Panathenaic Stadium.

Tram stops affected include Fix, Leoforos Vouliagmenis, Zappio and Syntagma
