Police force says it dismantled criminal group involved with sports violence

The Hellenic Police on Wednesday announced the dismantling of a criminal group involved with incidents of sports violence, including the fatal attack against police officer Georgios Liggeridis on 7 December 2023  in Rentis.

Police said that a police operation mounted on Monday under the code name ‘Damocles’ Sword’ had brought an end to the gang’s actitivities, while 63 members of this group, which was made up of 160-odd individals, were arrested and would face charges for the establishment and direction of a criminal organisation, manslaughter, grievous bodily harm, disturbing the peace, explosion, robbery, extortion, arson, theft, damage to another’s property and other offenses.

Another four individuals were arrested and accused of violating the law on drugs, weapons and flares.
