“Fifty-five years after dictatorship erupted in Greece, the 21st of April 2022 comes to underline that the ordeal of democracy can change forms,” Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said in a post on the internet on Thursday, marking the anniversary of the 1967 coup that installed a seven-year military dictatorship in Greece.

“Autocratic despotism is today attacking free besieged Ukraine while, in all countries, populism is once again peddling supposedly easy answers to difficult questions. Proposing non-existent solutions to real challenges.

Our answer, therefore, can be none other than the unity of society on the basis of truth. From the constant improvement of parliamentarianism and the daily effort for Greece’s to progress and for Greeks to prosper,” the prime minister added.
