FM Nikos Kotzias meets with counterparts, Mogherini at Union for the Mediterranean forum

Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias represented Greece at the 3rd Regional Forum of the Union for the Mediterranean (UfM) that met in Barcelona on Monday with the participation of EU High Representative and Vice-President Federica Mogherini.

In his intervention, Kotzias urged for a more effective definition of missions of organizations in the Mediterranean Basin area so there is no overlap, and stressed the need to focus on professional training for young people in order to improve their job prospects.

The forum, which has completed a decade since its founding, focused on youth unemployment as a path to development of member-countries and as a means of preventing their marginalization and radicalization.
Forty-three delegations headed by Foreign Ministers of countries around the Mediterranean took part, and Kotzias had the opportunity to meet with several on the forum’s sidelines, as well as with EU Commissioner for European Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn.

The Union for the Mediterranean brings together the 28 European Union member-states and 15 countries from the Southern and Eastern shores of the Mediterranean to promote dialogue and cooperation.
