Foreign Minister Kotzias reiterates Greek position on agreement with FYROM

The issue of the Greece-FYROM agreement on the latter country’s name led the agenda of the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg on Monday, which Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias attended.
The name issue agreement is being debated in FYROM’s Parliament.
“ Skopje must understand clearly that there is no resolution (to the name issue) without the ratification of the Prespes Agreement,” Kotzias said, referring to the bilateral agreement that will also need to pass Greek Parliament.
The foreign ministers discussed the results of the consultative referendum held on September 30 in FYROM, which showed overwhelming support for the agreement but with a lower than expected turnout of voters.
Kotzias also said that “the assertions of the main opposition parties in both Greece and FYROM that they could have reached a better agreement for their countries are impossible, because this does not add up.”
On the migration issue, also on the agenda, Kotzias said that migrant flows from the East Mediterranean “ outnumber those from Libya and the Central Mediterranean, and we must therefore never stop watching and taking care of that side” of the Mediterranean.
