ND vice-president Georgiadis: “SYRIZA policy on FYROM a huge mistake, won’t pass in Parliament”

Main opposition New Democracy (ND) vice-president Adonis Georgiadis in an interview with Praktoreio 104.9 FM on Wednesday accused Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras of operating on party interest lines instead of keeping a united national front in the negotiations for FYROM name issue.

Georgiadis also expressed his opposition to the policy of allowing FYROM to join NATO now and give them a two-year margin of delivering on the promises. “I think that if the Greek government accepts such a decision, it would be a huge mistake and would hurt our national interests. Moreover, I do not think that it would pass in the Parliament,” he explained.

Asked about the developments in the Middle East, he noted: “I am impressed how the people of Hamas are so easily bringing the civilian population into an area of such a tough conflict; this is beyond me (…). The civilian population should not be used for political reasons by anyone and for no reason.”
