Health Minister Adonis Georgiadis on Friday called on representatives of the global pharmaceutical industry to view Greece as a potential investment destination, not just as a pharmaceutical market.

Addressing the Delphi Economic Forum IX, Georgiadis emphasised that “the aim of the ministry is to encourage the holding of clinical trials,” adding that there has been an improvement in this direction.

“However, this is not enough as we also want investments for the production of medicines in Greece,” he noted. Speaking about clawback and rebate, the health minister said that in 2024 these will be reduced by 300 million euros, while he stated that his goal is to reach 400 million euros. “This is how we will send the message to the industry that we understand them, but all this will be done with data and absolute transparency,” he said.

Speaking about Greece, he said that the focus is now on innovation. “Even though we, in Greece, make up no more than 2% of the European population, we produce 10% of the drugs currently exported by the European Union,” he added, pointing out that Greece offers opportunities for investments in the health sector.
