Dealing with bad debtors a government priority over the next period

Dealing with bad debtors must be a priority of national importance over the next period, government vice-president Yiannis Dragasakis said on Sunday in an article to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA).

Although the phenomenon is global, he said, the problem in Greece will not be easily solved as it is a typical characteristic of Greek capitalism. However, he added, “the institutional framework set up by the current government showcases the problem and facilitates its solution.”

Dragasakis stressed the need for greater synergies as well as constant and coordinated efforts, and even legislative initiatives if necessary. He also explained that the same measures cannot be implemented on people striving for their survival and people that are strategically bad debtors. Dealing with bad loans is a prerequisite for exiting the crisis but also a prerequisite for banks to be able to grant again loans to those in need.
