Benoit Coeure, Member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank (ECB), said on Tuesday in an interview with French newspaper Le Figaro that the sacrifices of the Greek society have borne fruit.
Greek state bond yields fell on Friday as the market welcomed a Eurogroup decision on Greek debt relief. The 10-year bond yielded 4.11 pct, 20 basis points lower than Thursday, sinking to its lowest level since mid-May, while the five-year bond yielded 3.16 pct, down 25 basis points in the domestic electronic secondary bond market.
EU Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Pierre Moscovici said on Thursday that it is a historic day for Greece and the eurozone, adding that now a credible set of measures are needed on Greek debt.
“Tomorrow we expect a decision for the settlement of the Greek debt that will signal the end of an eight-year adventure for Greece and the end of austerity,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras said on Wednesday, referring to Thursday’s Eurogroup meeting.
The Eurogroup Working Group (EWG) has taken the first steps to prepare the decision for Greece’s exit from the programme but medium-term measures for easing Greece’s debt will be decided by euro area finance ministers at the June 21 Eurogroup, EU sources said to the Athens-Macedonian News Agency (ANA) on Friday.
The final agreement on Greece’s exit from the financial assistance programme, expected to be concluded by the Eurogroup in June, will also include the debt issue, Vice-President of the European Commission Valdis Dombrovskis said on Thursday, addressing the European Parliament Committee on Economic and Monetary Affairs.
Interior Minister Panos Skourletis expressed the opinion that “in Greece’s case, the effort of some extreme circles to impose a different model in Europe is now evident” in an interview on Monday with Athens Macedonian News Agency.
