The terrorist attacks carried out by Hamas in Israel and the situation in the Gaza Strip, as well as their repercussions for Greece and the surrounding region, were discussed at a meeting of the Government Council on National Security (KYSEA) chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday, government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis said.

Marinakis said the Council carried out an overall review of the situation in the region and was briefed on the repatriations of Greek citizens from Israel, coordinated by the foreign ministry.

The Council meeting discussed all aspects of the crisis with emphasis on security, both domestic and international. In the meantime, Greek authorities are on alert and the policy of guarding the land and sea borders continues with undiminished intensity.

The Athens international airport ‘Eleftherios Venizelos’ is one of four airports in Europe that facilitate repatriation flights from Israel and will continue to do so for foreign citizens.
