An evacuation order was sent via the emergency number 112 to residents in the areas of Paliouri and Rizari at Marathonas, on the east coast of Attica, where a brushfire broke out at 14:40 on Wednesday afternoon, said the Fire Brigade.

Some 45 firefighters with 13 fire engines, 2 ground teams and 2 water-dowsing helicopters are operating to put it out.

According to earlier information by the Fire Brigade the fire started at the junction of Eolou and Olympionikon Streets, near houses.
