SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance leader Alexis Tsipras reiterated a call for the public to cast their votes on Sunday for party leader and the new central committee, speaking in Agrinio, Central Greece, on Friday.

It will be the first vote held directly from the base of members and friends of the party, and Syriza has called on everyone over 15 to vote regardless of affiliation. Same-day party registration will be available at voting centers in Greece, while voters are expected to contribute 2 euros to election costs.

The main opposition leader arrived in Agrinio after visiting Arta, at 19:00, and walked around the commercial center of the city, chatting with residents and store owners. He said he chose Agrinio as the last stop of a large tour before Sunday “because it has always been the heart of progressives, and because the prefecture serves as an indicator of voting contests.”

The government, he said, has led the country record price hikes, record numbers of casualties from the coronavirus pandemic, and record depths of democratic and labor rights, including press freedom.

Everyone should vote on Sunday, he said, “to convey a message for change from one end of the country to another, to take a first step in boosting Syriza and in sending a clear message of politics.”
