2.9 Richter earthquake jolts Athens Monday afternoon; focal depth of 5km

An earthquake jolted the city of Athens at 15:52 on Monday afternoon, said the National Observatory of Athens’ Geodynamic Institute.

The tremor registered a 2.9 magnitude on the Richter scale 10 km northeast of Athens, and had a focal depth of 5km.

The quake’s magnitude was initially reported at 2.8 on the Richter scale 12 km northeast of Athens, but was revised a short while later by the Hellenic Unified Seismic Network.
