Christmas extended festive season operating hours as of Tuesday

Businesses staying closed until January 11 will not pay the month’s rent, says Finance Ministry

Shops to allow for pick-up of click-away orders only, as of Sunday; bookstores, hairdressers to open on Monday

Shops will open on Sunday, July 19, as it is the first Sunday of the summer sales period in Greece. The suggested opening hours for high street shops are between 11:00 and 18:00, though some malls and large department stores may stay open until 20:00.

The private employees’ union federation OIYE on Sunday repeated calls for the abolition of Sunday opening, saying the measure has proven inefficient and failed to increase turnover. This was especially true during the current year, it added, given the reduced consumer spending power and a lack of tourism.
