The Greek Foundation for Research and Technology (FRT) has become a partner in a leading climate innovation initiative funded by the European Institute for Innovation and Technology (EIT), the EIT Knowledge and Innovation Community for Climate (EIT Climate-KIC).

According to an announcement on Monday, the foundation “fully sympathises with the need to intensify efforts in order to achieve the goals of sustainable development,” with the PRAXI Network and UNESCO on Futures Research undertaking to coordinate the effort on FRT’s behalf.

“We are very happy that the Foundation is part of the EIT Climate-KIC family. Today, more than ever, research must embrace sustainable development and make a decisive contribution to tackling and reversing climate change. The Foundation will help promote EIT Climate-KIC’s goals nationally. I am convinced that the country’s research community has particularly important scientific work and research to show in areas directly related to issues of sustainable development and sustainability. The participation of the Foundation in this community offers a unique opportunity to communicate the relevant Greek work in research, as well as to create synergies at a national, regional and European level to address climate change through research and innovation,” said FRT president, Professor Nektarios Tavernarakis.

EIT Climate-KIC’s goal is to tackle climate change through innovation and its work aims to establish prosperous, cohesive and climatically resilient societies based on a circular economy, as well as zero-emission economics. It is the largest public-private partnership in Europe aiming to tackle the challenges of climate change and bringing together hundreds of large and medium-sized enterprises, scientific institutions, universities, municipalities, public bodies, start-ups and students.
