We cannot play political games with people’s lives, Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias says

“There can be no political games with the dignity and freedom of people. It is unacceptable,” Foreign Minister Nikos Kotzias said on Thursday in an interview with Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung on the arrest and detention of two Greek soldiers by Turkey.

“It’s unprecedented. The two soldiers have been waiting for more than four months to be tried.

“I believe that freedom and human life do not have the same meaning in Turkey as in Greece. It often reminds me of the situation in the Middle East, where human life and freedom also have a different value than they do for us. We would never have captured two Turks, nor would we imprison them without trial for months. With the dignity and freedom of people, no political games must be played. It is unacceptable,” he noted.
