“Arguements are good, as they highlight party differences”, says Dimitris Tzanakopoulos

Controversies highlight the differences between the political parties and in these cases they are intense, government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakopoulos said on Friday to radio 24/7 commenting on the fierce debate between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis on Thursday in parliament.

As he claimed, “this kind of debates are good” as they highlight the political arguments and the differences among the parties.

Commenting on Hellenic Federation of Enterprises (SEV) statements regarding the need for pension cuts, Tzanakopoulos noted that the government will not ask SEV on the fiscal policy it will follow.

Referring to the implementation of the offset measures, the government spokesman said that everything depends on the country’s fiscal course and reiterated that there is 800 mln euros for 2019 and 700-750 of those will be used for tax reliefs.

Asked on the agreement with FYROM, Tzanakopoulos said he “is deeply convinced that there are MPs in the Greek parliament that will decide with responsibility” and will be positive on the ratification of the agreement.

On Independent Greeks (ANEL party that participates in SYRIZA government) stance, he said that he is not worried at all. “We will see everything and we will discuss everything thoroughly with ANEL and we will reach a mutually accepted position in order for the government to complete its term”.

On polls and FYROM’s issue impact to the intention of vote, Tzanakopoulos underlined that the Greek citizens will vote with main criterion who can lead the country to the post memorandum period while at the same time safeguarding Greece’s leading role in the Balkans.
