Katerina Stefanidis clinches gold at World Championships in London

Katerina Stefanidi won the pole vault event in the World Championships in London on Sunday.

Stefanidi took the first place with 4.91m setting a new national record. The pole vaulter became the first Greek woman in the history of sports that won the gold medal in all three-top track and field events, namely, The Olympic Games, the world championships and the European Championships.

Only a few Greeks- all men- have achieved this in all sports. Kostas Kenteris in track and field (200m), Pyrros Dimas in weightlifting, Ilias Iliadis in judo, Dimosthenis Tabakos in gymnastics and Lefteris Petrounias also in gymnastics. Tewnty-four-year-old Stefanidis is the newest member of this club.
