Greek lawmakers pass tax and pension reforms bill by 153 votes in favour




Greek lawmakers passed the government’s tax and pension reform bill in the early hours of Monday morning, in a roll-call vote requested by the opposition parties including New Democracy (main opposition), Golden Dawn, Democratic Coalition, Potami, independent deputy Leonidas Grigorakos and the Communist Party of Greece (KKE).

The bill was passed by 153 votes and the support of the ruling SYRIZA-ANEL coalition MPs only, with all the opposition parties and independent deputies voting against (143).

Four deputies were absent – Dora Bakoyannis (who attended most of the parliamentary proceedings but had to withdrew due to illness before the vote) and Costas Vlassis of New Democracy; Fofi Gennimata, head of Democratic Coalition; and Nikos Michos of Golden Dawn (Chryssi Avgi).
