Farmers to continue temporary blockades of border customs crossing indefinitely

Farmers’ tractors remained lined up at the border crossing customs office of Kipi at the Greek-Turkish border on Friday, after the end of a two-hour traffic blockade earlier in the day, in protest against proposed new taxes and social insurance reforms for the sector.

According to the president of the Farmers’ Association of Alexandroupolis, Costas Alexandris, the protests will continue indefinitely with daily few-hour blockades of the crossing.

On Saturday, farmers will close the border crossing customs office of Orestiada, another small town on the border with Turkey. Earlier, the farmers handed a resolution on the reasons for their mobilization to the customs authorities, asking for their understanding and support.

Elsewhere in the region of Evros, traffic is being interrupted every few hours by the farmers at Egnatia highway, near the nodes of Ardani and Rizia.
