Defence Min Dendias returns to Greece from New York due to developments in the Middle East

The developments in the wider region of the Persian Gulf and in the region of Eastern Mediterranean dominated Defence Minister Nikos Dendias meeting with visiting EU Special Representative for the Gulf region Luigi Di Maio on Friday at the Foreign Ministry in Athens.

The Greek minister briefed Di Maio on the operation ‘Aspides’, “an operation in a crucial region, of high importance for the European Union”, he stressed.
“This operation ensures the maritime communication route to the ports of the European Union, mainly to the Greek and Italian ports,” he added.
Finally, he reminded that “Luigi Di Maio was the one with whom we signed the first agreement in the history of Greece on the exclusive economic zones, which was a shining example of how two civilised countries that respect the International Law and the International Law of the Sea can resolve their differences amicably.”
