The issue concerning the elected mayor of Himare Fredi Beleri and his right to a fair trial is not a bilateral issue between Greece and Albania but a matter of respect for the rule of law, which represents the cornerstone of the accession process, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis said at the EU-Western Balkans Summit in Brussels, reiterating Greece’s firm position on this matter.

The prime minister also repeated Athens’ sincere willingness to resolve this issue, underlining that Greece was and remains one of the pioneers of the Western Balkans’ accession perspective.
