The investigation into the near-fatal injury of a police officer by a naval flare during clashes with hooligans after a volleyball match in the Piraeus district of Rentis took a new turn on Friday after police announced that the DNA of a second suspect had been found on the flare gun used in the attack.

An 18-year-old has already been remanded in custody as a suspect for shooting and seriously injuring the 31-year-old officer on December 7, outside “Melina Mercouri” indoor sports facility in the Pireaus district of Rentis.

The new suspect identified by the police forensics lab based on DNA evidence, is the first suspect’s 16-year-old brother. His DNA has been found on part of the flare gun, while gunpowder residue was found on the teenager’s hands.

Gun power residue has also been found on the hands of a 26-year-old, who works as the manager of a trap music artist.

Police have additionally launched a manhunt to locate an individual who, based on the 18-year-old youth’s testimony, had supplied them with ‘weapons’ and had led the attack on the police.
