A “Christmas Basket” in supermarkets designed to give consumers access to more affordable seasonal goods for the holidays is scheduled to be launched on December 13 based on the development ministry’s current plans, General Secretary for Commerce and Consumer Protection Sotiris Anagnostopoulos revealed on Sunday.

Talking to the public broadcaster ERT, he said that official announcements will be made within the coming week and that the basket will include categories such as chocolates, tsoureki buns, turkey, pork and veal, while there is a discussion underway on whether it will also include traditional Christmas sweets, lamb and goat meat.

Regarding Christmas sweets, he noted that bakeries and pastry shops were often better sources of such goods and often had much lower prices than supermarkets.
