A bill for the ratification of a Greece-Cyprus agreement for the mutual academic recognition of university degrees between higher educational institutions and other approved institutions was passed by the Hellenic Parliament in a plenary session on Friday.

The debate during discussion of the bill was dominated by the issue of fan violence, however, following the injury of the 31-year-old policeman during a volleyball game on Thursday. The representatives of the parties sent wishes for his speedy recovery, expressing their support and underlining the need for a drastic response to the phenomenon.

Education Minister Kyriakos Pierrakakis also referred to the issue during the debate while the first vice-president of the Parliament, Yiannis Plakiotakis, sent the message that it is time to proceed with more decisive interventions to eliminate the problem of fan violence.
