Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis again chaired a meeting at the Thessaly Region Coordination Centre for Operations on Thursday, in which he participated via video call, and was briefed on the operations underway for the relief of flood-stricken areas.

The prime minister then gave instructions for further action, saying that particular weight must be given to public health issues, pumping floodwater and removal of animal carcasses.

The collection of dead animals was making rapid progress, especially after the Armed Forces were called in to assist the effort.

According to a government announcement, the meeting also examined the latest figures from the climate crisis and civil protection ministry’s State Assistance service and the speed of inspecting and recording damage to buildings and homes. Applications are still being made to the arogi.gov.gr platform for government assistance, while the operations coordination centre is expected to make a more detailed briefing on Thursday afternoon.

The online meeting was also attended by a number of government ministers and state officials involved in the response to the floods, as well as representatives of local government and local armed forces and fire brigade officers.
