Last group of defendants in Nea Philadelphia football clashes testifying Sunday

The last group of individuals arrested over the deadly incidents ahead of the AEK-Dinamo Zagreb football match at Nea Philadelphia began testifying before prosecutors at the Evelpidon courts on Sunday.

The clashes on August 7 resulted in the death of an AEK fan, Michalis Katsouris, 29.

A total of 33 defendants are expected to respond to charges levelled at a total of 105 people that range from setting up a criminal organization and premeditated murder to illegal possession and use of weapons. Of the total detained, most (103) were arrested shortly after the incidents, while the 104th was hospitalized under police guard and the 105th was arrested days later as he tried to leave Greece on a bus.

The great majority of the defendants are Croatian nationals.

So far, the 70 defendants who have testified before prosecutors on Friday and Saturday have been remanded in custody and led back to jail.
