Government spokesperson Marinakis: Fire-stricken to be compensated immediately

Government spokesperson Pavlos Marinakis stressed the government’s intention to immediately compensate the fire-stricken people during a press briefing on Monday

Specifically, Marinakis said that roughly 876,000 euros were given to 167 fire-stricken beneficiaries for the fires occured from July 15 to July 31. He also make known that the off the agenda debate in the parliament on the wildfires and the civil protection will be held on Thursday.

A meeting will be held on Tuesday at the Maximos Mansion chaired by Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis on the restoration of the Evros and Parnitha forests with the participation of the Environment and Energy and the Climate Crisis and Civil Protection Ministries political leadership.

On Wednesday, Mitsotakis will visit Thessaloniki where, ahead of the opening of the Thessaloniki International Fair (TIF), will hold a series of meetings with production agencies and local administration officials.

On Thursday, Mitsotakis will address the parliament on the wildfires issue and at the same day he will welcome the Italian Prime Minister Georgia Meloni for a working visit. Bilateral and regional issues as well as EU agenda issues will be discussed.

On Friday, September 1, there will be a cabinet meeting at the Maximos Mansion while later on Friday Mitsotakis will go to Rhodes to inspect the recording and restoration course of the damages provoked by the wildfires and will meet with local administration officials, productive bodies and representatives of the civil protection mechanism.
