The Greek Foreign Ministry in an announcement on Friday unequivocally condemned the unacceptable attacks of Turkish-Cypriots against members of the UN peacekeeping force on Cyprus (UNFICYP) that attempted to prevent unauthorised road construction works inside the dead zone near Pyla, referring to the attack against UN’s peacekeeping forces on Cyprus and the occupation forces attempt to create fait accompli.

The same announcement said that the attempt to create fait accomplit inside the dead zone constitutes a clear violation of the status quo while the attack against members of the peacekeeping force of UN is an act of contempt for the international legality.

Therefore, the illegal works should stop immediately any kind of activity that would provoke a further escalation of the tension should be avoided. Such act do not contribute in UN’s efforts to revive the discussion for the resolution of the Cyprus issue. Greece is in full coordination with the Republic of Cyprus and will make all the necessary actions to the international organisations and governments, the Foreign Ministry’s announcement said.
