Firefighters and volunteers fought throughout the night to put out pockets of rekindled flames at the fire fronts in West Attica, Laconia and Rhodes, where the situation appeared improved on Friday morning.

According to the Fire Brigade, all three wildfires presented a better picture as there was no longer a single, unified front but only scattered pockets of fire. However, due to the adverse weather conditions expected to prevail on Friday, they warned that there was still a danger that the fire would spread once again.

A total of 120 fire engines with 300 fire fighters as crew, assisted by three firefighting aircraft and four helicopters, were operating in West Attica.

In Laconia, 15 fire engines with 52 fire fighters as crew, along with four aircraft were operating to put out the fires, while on Rhodes there were 26 fire engines, 102 fire fighters as crew on the ground, assisted by four planes and two water dropping helicopters from the air.
