Staikouras to ANA: Improvement of public transport among the ministry’s priorities

Ιnfrastructure and Transport Minister Christos Staikouras in an interview with Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Sunday said that among the government’s priorities is the improvement of the public transport, the increase of the quality of transport services and the improvement of the offered services with the reduction of the impact on the environment.

The first ‘green buses’ will be included in Athens and Thessaloniki fleets in early 2024 while the construction works of Athens metro line 4 are in progress and the metro in Thessaloniki is almost ready.

On the railways’ open issues, Staikouras presented the upgrading railway project which will be based on three pillars noting that “in this period we will all work very hard with personal and collective responsibility in order to substantially address the open safety and quality issues of the infrastructures and the transport.

Additionally, among the issues of the ministry is the promotion of the electro-mobility, the road safety and the government’s vision for the operation of the hydroplanes.
In the sector of infrastructure, Staikouras referred to the flagship projects included in the 2030 development plan for Greece with a total of 188 important projects and total budget of 27.6 billion euros.
