Rescue operation of migrants on an islet in Evros concluded

The rescue operation of migrants on an islet in the Marasia region of Evros was concluded late on Sunday.

The Greek authorities gathered 91 people, 32 men, 25 women and 34 children.

According to the police, the migrants, who are in good health, were given clothes, food and first aid and were transferred to pre-removal detention centres in Orestiada.

“Greece has contacted the Turkish government regarding the coordination of the border authorities and the prevention of illegal crossings,” Prime Minister Ioannis Sarmas’ press office said on Sunday.
