The leader of New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, on Saturday accused the opposition of “instrumentalisation of health issues” during his speech at a pre-election rally in Koufalia, Thessaloniki, after the incident with Spyros Pnevmatikos.

New Democracy candidate in Evia Spyros Pnevmatikos was ousted on Friday from the electoral race following statements regarding cancer patients.
Pnevmatikos will hand over the seat if elected because it is not possible to remove him from the ballots at this stage, as they have been approved by the Supreme Court.

“Our government has ensured that each patient has access to the best possible treatment that his doctor will prescribe, regardless of cost, and this policy will continue for all cancer patients,” the leader of New Democracy stressed.

“And it is really sad that those who pointed the finger at us for an inappropriate statement by a member of New Democracy party, now it is revealed that their own executives had said exactly the same things and don’t have the courage to at least acknowledge it,” he added.
