Construction and media tycoon Giorgos Bobolas dies, aged 95

Business tycoon Giorgos Bobolas, owner of one of Greece’s largest construction groups and the media and printing company Pigasos Ekdotiki & Ektypotiki SA, died on Tuesday at the age of 95.

Bobolas was born in Piraeus in 1928 and studied civil engineering at the National Technical University of Athens.

He went on to found the company Technodomi with later public works minister Evangelos Kouloumbis.

He was active in the construction, energy and mass media sectors, mainly via two companies:

Ellaktor, arising from the merger of Aktor ATE and Elliniki Technodomiki in 1999, and Pigasos Ekdotiki, which was also an owner of the TV station Mega Channel (in which it held a 25 pct share until 2019) and the newspapers Ethnos and Imerisia (until 2017), as well as a series of websites and magazines.

He also had shares in the Mont Parnes casino, the Attiki Odos highway and Halkidiki gold mines.
