The President of the Republic Mr Nicos Anastasiades, accompanied by his spouse Mrs Andri Anastasiades and their grandchildren, exercised today his right to vote for the second round of the Presidential Elections, at the Lanition Lyceum, in Limassol.

Afterwards, the President of the Republic in his remarks to reporters, asked whether he will stand by whoever will be elected President of the Republic, said that «this is the duty of each one of us. Today, the people decide who will be the next President. We must surround him, whoever he may be, with love and trust and contribute wherever each one can so that he will succeed in his task.

This is our duty. And if there is something that I want, is to repeat what the rules of democracy stipulate: The people decide, the majority decides, and the minority respects.

I call on the people to participate massively in this electoral process. We have said it many times that irrespective of the feelings whoever holds, they should exercise their voting right and duty, if you wish, for democracy, uninfluenced, on the basis of their own criteria.»

Asked if a new cycle opens up for him, President Anastasiades said that «it is not a matter of another cycle opening. I will be present, always discreetly, and wherever my intervention is needed it will be in the positive direction and not the negative».

Invited to comment on the position by Keti Clerides, the daughter of the founder of the Democratic Rally, concerning accusations of corruption and corrupt people, President Anastasiades said that «I don’t want to comment on vulgarities. I don’t want to comment what others have tried to pass on to the people. There must be mutual respect. I don’t want to say anything more».
To an observation by a reporter that he speaks with bitterness, President Anastasiades said «of course with bitterness. Is it ever possible just because you carry a name you must not honor it?».
