Athens takes over the presidency of Balkan Cities Network

The mayor of Athens, Kostas Bakoyannis, expressed his absolute support for Ekrem Imamoglu, but also his firm adherence to the European values of democracy and respect for the rule of law, speaking at an International Solidarity Meeting at the Istanbul City Hall.

The mayor of Athens stated that Ekrem Imamoglu is “a mayor who worthily serves democracy in Turkiye’s largest city, and practically supports the cooperation, the peace and the prosperity in the wider Balkan region”, adding that in order for these values to be ensured the democracy and the rule of law should prevail.

As he noted, the democracy claimed by Imamoglou in Istanbul “is not a luxury or an unhistorical ‘persistence’. It is a necessity for development and a preresiquite for a better life.”
