Main opposition SYRIZA-Progressive Alliance on Tuesday asked for the immediate convention of the parliament’s Institutions and Transparency Committee due to the phone tapping scandal by the National Intelligence Service (EYP) through the Predator spyware as well as due to the government’s efforts to cover it.

In a letter to the Institutions and Transparency Committee, the main opposition party’s MPs asked from the Committee to summon “the new chief of EYP, the former chief of EYP, the president of the Communications Privacy Authority, the former general secretary of Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and the prosecutor responsible for EYP”.

Economou: No shadows will be left; answers will be given in an institutional way

“From the first moment that this case came to light, the government has been consistent in its line and its tactics to do what is necessary, in order for us all to get the answers. We don’t want any shadow left. There should be answers regarding the questions that arise both for (KINAL-Movement for Change leader Nikos) Androulakis and for the political world as a whole. These answers, due to the nature of the matter, can only be given in an institutional way,” government spokesperson Yiannis Economou said on Tuesday in an interview with public broadcaster ERT1.

“Justice will do its job. All the competent authorities and services will help the justice, and what is institutionally provided for this very important issue – we have never denied its seriousness – within the Greek parliament, will be done,” Economou underlined.
