A draft law on the total modernisation of the Single Social Security Entity (EFKA) announced Labour and Social Affairs Minister Kostis Hatzidakis in an interview with Athens-Macedonian News Agency on Sunday, clarifying that it is not a privatisation.

Speaking to ANA, Hatzidakis underlined that EFKA, as it was drawn from the beginning, was an unwieldy and ineffective public organisation. In this context, he said that the draft law will address the bureaucracy and the delays in the citizens’ service adding that its main characteristics will be the introduction of new management methods and the higher speed in decision making.

Among others, the minister referred to the possible increase of the minimum wage in 2022 “As the economy gets into a positive course and in parallel the workers were strongly pressed in the last two years, the government is determined to offer a social dividend to the workers and to those paid with the minimum wage. It is early to talk about it, the process will start in early 2020”.
