“The outbreak of the ‘Delta’ mutation, which is also observed in Greece and mainly affects the unvaccinated, creates the obligation for the state to react. There is a portion of people who insist on not being vaccinated. Opinions are based on things that can not be accepted, neither by science, nor by the majority of citizens, nor by the government.

Given, therefore, that this is dangerous both for themselves, for their health, and for the people they associate with, but also for the whole of social life and the economy, the government cannot remain inactive,” government spokesperson Yiannis Ikonomou said on Tuesday in an interview with Mega TV.

“Everyone’s choices come at a cost. The purpose is for everyone to understand that the state can provide resources, forces and energy up to a certain point in order to convince them. From the first moment the pandemic broke out, the state reacted immediately. We took sanitary measures, we proceeded to make significant changes in the National Health Service, we also have the vaccine. Today, we can vaccinate whoever wants to be vaccinated with the vaccine of their choice, and effectively the location of their choice, that is, the vaccination can also be done at home”, the government spokesperson added.

Regarding the course of the vaccination, he said that the vaccination flow has improved a lot, compared to what we saw in mid-August. “From two or three thousand appointments a day, we have reached 15,000 to 20,000 appointments a day. We will not stop motivating people to get vaccinated,” he said.

He further added that the vast majority of medical staff have been vaccinated. “There are people in the health sector who really refuse to be vaccinated and in the context of ethics or scientific documentation, medical associations are also concerned,” he added.
