Greek and foreign firefighters continue to tackle wildfires, rekindlings in the Peloponnese on Saturday

Fire Brigade ground forces continue their efforts in the Peloponnese to put out wildfires in Gortynia in Arcadia, at Ancient Olympia, Ilia, and eastern Mani on Saturday, and to deal with any rekindlings.

According to the Fire Brigade, a large number of ground forces are at Gortynia and the region of Ancient Olympia, in central and western Peloponnese respectively, as Greek firefighters have been joined by other countries through the RescEU emergency mechanism for natural catastrophes.

Specifically, there are 35 firefighters and 14 fire trucks from the Czech Republic, 240 firefighters and 60 fire trucks from France, 244 firefighters and 56 fire trucks from Germany, and 40 firefighters and 13 fire trucks from Austria.

The mobile operations center ‘Olympos’ is also in the area, while firefighters include volunteers, water trucks and heavy machinery from the local governments.

In eastern Mani, Fire Brigade ground forces continue to work towards putting out rekindlings, while in Drialia of Laconia a fire that broke out on Friday afternoon is under partial control.
