Government Council for National Security to convene at 18:00, chaired by PM

The Government Council for National Security (KYSEA) is to convene at the Maximos Mansion at 18:00 on Sunday, with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis chairing the meeting.
According to government sources, the prime minister made a second round of telephone calls to European Council President Charles Michel and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Saturday to discuss how Frontex could assist in the protection of the Greek border, which is also the external border of the European Union.

Mitsotakis also contacted President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopios Pavlopoulos on the telephone and briefed him on the measures being taken by the Greek government to protect Greece’s borders.

In Brussels, meanwhile, the European border agency Frontex issued an announcement on Sunday saying that it had increased the level of the alert on the Greek-Turkish border to high and had a received a request for additional assistance from Greece, taking measures to send additional equipment and forces.
