FinMin Tsakalotos optimistic Eurogroup will approve loan tranche disbursement

Greek Finance Minister Euclid Tsakalotos expressed his optimism on Wednesday that the Eurogroup meeting on Friday will approve a recommendation for the disbursement of a nearly 1-billion-euro loan tranche to Greece, following a satisfactory review of the country’s post-programme surveillance by the EuroWorking Group the same day.

In opening remarks while delivering an address at a SYRIZA event on the economy and Greek society following the loan memoranda, Tsakalotos said, “The EuroWorking Group meeting ended just now, and it went very well. (…) Institutions gave an affirmative report, therefore we are very optimistic for the disbursement on Monday.”

At its meeting earlier on Wednesday, the EuroWorking Group approved Greece’s enhanced surveillance report and will recommend to the Eurogroup meeting in Bucharest on Friday that the tranche be disbursed to Greece.

The amount, part of the medium-term measures on Greece’s debt the Eurogroup has planned, will be used to reduce the public debt.
