Both sides are determined to give the battle for Prespes agreement, says Tzanakopoulos

The Prespes agreement is ‘alive’, said government spokesman Dimitris Tzanakoulos on Friday speaking to radio 24/7.
He said that the Greek government is monitoring the developments and supports FYROM Prime Minister Zoran Zaev’s initiative adding that both sides are determined to give the battle for this agreement to come into effect.

Referring to main opposition New Democracy (ND) he said that if it tables another motion of censure it will lose it again.

On Independent Greeks (ANEL) leader Panos Kammenos’ stance, he repeated that there is no reason for concern and in the context of ‘an honest agreement” between the prime minister and Kammenos “they will move towards the general elections together”.

On the Stock Exchange market, Tzanakopoulos said that conditions have been stabilised after Wednesday’s pressures on bank shares and stressed that these pressures were disproportional. He noted that the previous picture did not reflect the real course of banks and the economy.

He said that Greek banks exceed the goals in reducing non-performing loans adding that the government has a specific plan and the details of the plan will be announced shortly.

On the borrowing cost, Tzanakopoulos said that the Greek state has not anyimmediate financing needs and the fundamentals showed that the interest rate of the Greek bond will fall in the next few months.

He ruled out the possibility of creating a “Bad Bank” as rumoured and said that the banks have adequate capital and are currently in a phase of restructuring and positive course. He added that banks needed to finance the real economy to help achieve even higher growth rates.
