Greece’s public servants are the oldest in Europe but are superior in quality to their peers in the region, according to public sector workers group ADEDY.

“We have the oldest state workforce among the countries in the European Union. Half of the workers are approaching the age of 56 and if nothing changes in two years, the average age will be at 58,” said ADEDY president Yiannis Paidas, during a press conference given in Thessaloniki ahead of the demonstrations to be held outside of the trade fair this weekend.
Despite the higher age, ADEDY sources say, Greece’s public servants are a better quality than their peers in Europe as they have a higher level of education, have been trained and are skilled.
