Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras welcomed decisions extending four collective labour agreements in a comment posted on Twitter, saying they were a sign of the post-programme period in Greece.
“Today we had the first government decision that signals the exit from the memorandums. The labour minister signed the first four sectoral labour agreements, which impact roughly 75,000 workers, who will see an immediate increase in their wages.
“The battle to support the workers continues and is our priority in the post-programme era. Step by step we will win back work with dignity in our country,” Tsipras said.

Labour Minister Effie Achtsioglou on Monday signed ministerial decisions extending four sectoral collective labour agreements for the banking sector, shipping firms, tourist and travel agencies and all shipping agents and agencies belonging to the International Maritime Union.
The labour ministry said that it is continuing a process of checking sectoral labour agreements now in force, to check whether they meet the requirements to be extended, and that similar checks will be conducted on collective labour agreements signed in the future.
Restoring the principle of the collective bargaining, extension of collective agreements and adoption of the “best” agreement for employees is expected to help improve available income for workers, the ministry said.
