Alexis Tsipras said in Salzburg: We need a double front against the far right, neoliberalism

“We need a double front against the far right, racism and intolerance, and against neoliberalism and austerity that feed them and for this reason, we must put together the broadest possible progressive partnership in Europe, between the left, social democrats and the Ecologists,” Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras told the preparatory session of the European Socialist Party (PES) in Salzburg, Austria, on Wednesday, according to sources.
“That is why, this time, for the progressive forces and the European Socialist Party, will need to be totally distinct in its program, and its choices, in its differentiation from the European right,” said Tsipras, adding that “the priority therefore is with the political program – and not the figure – the choice of which will need to express the total of Europe’s progressive forces.”
“Our basic front must be against far right populism, nationalism and racism that threaten Europe. However, the problem is not only the rise of the far right but also the inclusion of the far right agenda, particularly regarding refugees and security, in the agenda of traditional conservative forces. We see this in many countries, in Greece particularly, this inclusion is complete,” added Tsipras.
