15,000 teachers to be appointed by 2022, Education Minister Costas Gavroglou said

Education Minister Costas Gavroglou said on Tuesday that a total of 15,000 teachers will be hired for public schools by 2022 on permanent basis, although the manner of their appointment is still to be worked out.
Gavroglou said that 4,500 teachers would be appointed to positions in special education in the next academic year (2019-2020), as announced by the prime minister; 5,250 teachers will be appointed in 2020-21, and 5,250 in 2021-22.
The minister invited teachers’ unions to submit proposals on how to appoint these teachers, but added that the distribution among grade levels and specialities would be based on immediate needs.
The appointments are “a step in the further upgrading of our educational system, especially in primary and secondary education,” he said.
